Burnham dawn service

On Saturday 25th-April it was an early morning start for my family and I. We headed to Burnham army base for the Anzac dawn service. The morning was warm and dark. It felt like I was in war as there were lot's of soldiers greeting people as they came in the gate. The lone man was standing silently on top of the water tower. Then he started playing the bagpipes. Then there was a loud bang it was the cannon. When the bang went off the trees went flying back. Then burnham school did a performance. Then the soldiers lay the wreaths of all the dead. We all sung the national anthem and had a minute silence.

  1. Great recount Jack. It sounds like the Burnham service was a different from the one in Christchurch. I can imagine the cannon noise would have been impressive as well as the man standing on the water tower!
